We strongly believe that self-defence should not, and does not rely on strength and fitness alone: technique can be taught to anyone.
If you joined a mainstream martial arts club you would normally be doing an induction course into their particular martial art. In our experience the self-defence element would not be effective until you had been training for possibly a year or more.
On our self defence course we feel we are able to teach in a much more direct manner, based solely on a self-defence philosophy. We are able to give you a basic self-defence capability within 15 weeks.
A self-defence course would normally include techniques such as:
It will also cover mental attitude, focus, personal/home security and self-protection.
We also touch on some elements of first aid, which we would recommend you add to with a full first aid course.
Depending on the capabilities of the group, the self-defence course may also include aspects of self-awareness and an awareness of surroundings.
The self-defence course is not a recruiting device. It is not expected that you will join the regular training group at the end of the course - most people complete a self-defence course and then happily return to their regular activities. Occasionally we are asked to extend the course for an additional few weeks, and in a few instances students have requested to join the regular training group.
Some students return for additional self-defence courses to refresh their skills and knowledge. We are quite happy for people to do this. Also, if you are sufficiently interested then we would suggest that you take the next step, arrange to come along to meet us and maybe join in for an evening or 2, and then see how you feel. This can be arranged by contacting teacher John.
We strongly believe that self-defence is so important that even if you decide not to come to us, then we would still suggest that you find a self-defence course elsewhere. Remember, the best asset you will ever have is yourself, because you will always be there when you are in trouble. Learn to trust yourself.
